Ableism

A set of practices and beliefs that assign inferior value (worth) to people who have developmental, emotional, physical or psychiatric disabilities.

Thousands of students and staff have some type of disability.  The Peel board must accommodate these individuals in a way   that respects their dignity and allows their full participation in    the board's activities. Only with access to proper support – from financial, to assistive devices, to removal of barriers, to teacher training – can people with disabilities get equal access to our programs and services, and equal opportunities to succeed. We must understand our obligation to accommodate persons with disabilities if we are to achieve equity of students and staff.
