Ageism

Actions and attitudes that place different values on, or create unequal opportunities for, individuals or groups because of their age.

People of any age deserve to be treated with fairness and respect. We must keep that in mind when dealing with students who are aged five to 19, and remember to give them all a voice in the issues that affect their lives. Staff also range in age, from people who are in their 20s and new to the workforce, to people nearing retirement. We must be aware of potential age discrimination, especially against the youngest and the oldest if we are to achieve equity for students and staff.
